Director – Payroll

Location: Century City, Cape Town

Salary: Market related

How do you keep global payroll ahead of acquisitions? Build the operating model.

Is this you?

Calm authority, commercial judgement and a genuine commitment to employee-centred service define your leadership style. You are comfortable bringing structure to complex international payroll environments, advising senior leaders and building capable teams that deliver accurately while regulations, jurisdictions and business needs continue to evolve.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Shape and deliver a multi-year global payroll strategy, operating model and governance framework that can support acquisitions, international expansion and organisational change. You will lead payroll risk, compliance, analytics, technology optimisation and provider performance across multiple jurisdictions. Acting as the senior payroll adviser, you will present insights and recommendations to leadership while developing the team and strengthening succession plans.

Where you’ll be doing it

Within a growing professional services organisation, payroll supports employees and operations across different jurisdictions and cultures. The multi-jurisdictional Human Resources environment values confidentiality, accuracy, collaboration and strong risk management, with this role contributing directly to integration activity, workforce decisions and continuity of service.

What you’ll need

A minimum of 10 years’ payroll or related experience within professional services is essential, including proven leadership responsibility. You will need an accounting qualification or bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, finance or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. Global payroll regulations, statutory obligations, payroll systems, data analysis, project management and executive communication should all be established strengths.

What you’ll get

The real draw is the opportunity to define how a global payroll function operates, scales and uses technology. You will gain executive-level influence across governance, acquisitions, international growth and workforce intelligence, while building leadership capability within the payroll team. After probation, the hybrid arrangement includes three days working from home each week.
