Junior Engineer (Automation & Continuous Improvement)

Location: Stellenbosch, Cape Town

Salary: Market related

Ready to move beyond maintenance? Step into a role where you'll shape the future of automation in a modern manufacturing environment.

Is this you?

You’re a hands-on Engineer who would rather be solving problems on the factory floor than sitting behind a desk. Curious, analytical and driven by continuous improvement, you’re excited by automation, robotics and finding smarter ways to improve manufacturing processes. You’re a proactive team player who communicates well, enjoys tackling technical challenges and is eager to build a long-term career in engineering.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Working closely with the Factory Manager, you’ll identify and implement automation opportunities, improve PLC-controlled production systems, support robotics projects and optimise plant performance through data-driven engineering solutions. You’ll help improve equipment reliability, increase production efficiency and reduce energy consumption while collaborating with production, maintenance and engineering teams. You’ll enjoy this role because your ideas will have a direct impact on a highly automated manufacturing operation, giving you the opportunity to become a recognised expert in automation, continuous improvement and modern manufacturing technologies.

Where you’ll be doing it

You’ll join a respected third-generation manufacturer in Stellenbosch with a long-standing reputation for technical excellence, quality and innovation within South Africa’s construction industry. Operating a sophisticated 24/7 production facility, the business combines strong family values with a collaborative engineering culture where safety, integrity and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything they do. With a flat management structure and ongoing investment in technology, this is an environment where engineers are encouraged to innovate, take ownership and grow.

What you’ll need

A BEng in Mechatronic Engineering (preferred), Electrical Engineering (Automation/Control), Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (with automation experience), together with 3-5 years’ post-university experience, ideally in your second engineering role. Exposure to PLCs, SCADA, industrial automation, robotics, VSDs, process improvement, Lean Manufacturing or root cause analysis will be highly advantageous. A practical mindset, excellent problem-solving ability, strong communication skills and your own reliable transport are essential.

What you’ll get

A competitive basic salary, pension, life and disability cover, performance-based bonus, laptop, and the opportunity to build a rewarding long-term career within an innovative engineering environment that invests in developing future technical leaders.
