Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Centurion West, Gauteng

Salary: Market related
Duration: Permanent

Ready to design the future of processing plants and mining machinery?

Is this you?

You’re an experienced mechanical design engineer who thrives in a leadership role and enjoys owning the full design function. Analytical by nature, you’re equally comfortable working independently or collaborating across departments. You value precision, are passionate about engineering excellence, and see every design as an opportunity to innovate. You’re confident, proactive, and excited about mentoring and helping to grow a future team.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

You’ll take the lead on designing and developing mechanical systems and machinery components, ensuring they meet functionality, safety, and efficiency standards. You’ll perform detailed calculations, use CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Inventor) for modelling, and collaborate with suppliers to refine designs for manufacturing. This role includes overseeing design reviews, implementing feedback, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You’ll also support project planning and play a pivotal role in establishing best practices as you lay the foundation for future team growth.

Where you’ll be doing it

Based in Centurion (West), you will be working full time in office, on a massive 5-year project secured with an international company planning on delivering over 100 processing plants globally. Our client specializes in designing advanced machinery solutions for sectors such as mineral processing, mining, and automated systems. They are known for their innovative, high-quality engineering solutions and have a culture that values collaboration, growth, and excellence. If you’re looking to join a company at the cutting edge of mechanical design, this is the perfect opportunity.

What you’ll need

You hold a BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering (BTech considered with relevant experience) and bring at least 5 years of hands-on mechanical design experience. You’re proficient in CAD software, with solid knowledge of materials, GD&T, and manufacturing processes. Ideally, you’ll have experience with FEA, ERP/PDM systems, and designing machinery for industrial or mineral processing environments. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities are key.

What you’ll get

You’ll enjoy a competitive salary tailored to your experience, plus the opportunity to grow professionally in a company that values innovation and leadership. This is a rare chance to take ownership of a key function from day one and influence the future of a growing engineering team.
