Mechanical Design Engineer (Filling & Sealing Systems)

Location: Ottery

Salary: Market related

Design machines that deliver precision, hygiene, and speed.

Is this you?

You’re a meticulous mechanical designer with a knack for solving complex engineering challenges. You thrive in technically demanding environments, where accuracy, hygiene, and performance are paramount. Detail-oriented yet innovative, you balance compliance with creativity – bringing safe, reliable, and cutting-edge machinery to life.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

You’ll lead the design and mechanical development of advanced automated machinery for filling and sealing applications. Using 3D CAD software, you’ll model and detail everything from servo-actuated mechanisms and cam-driven systems to precision dosing and sealing solutions. You’ll ensure designs meet hygienic standards and withstand the rigours of high-speed operation through detailed thermal, structural, and flow analyses. Your work will span concept to FAT, including sourcing components, overseeing assembly, testing prototypes, and refining performance. You’ll also contribute to R&D, focusing on sustainable packaging and manufacturing efficiencies.

Where you’ll be doing it

You’ll be joining a specialised engineering firm known for its innovation in automated machinery solutions, particularly within the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Their commitment to hygienic design, technical excellence, and tailored engineering has positioned them as a trusted partner globally. With a collaborative and forward-thinking culture, the team is driven by continuous improvement and world-class delivery.

What you’ll need

You’ll bring proven experience in mechanical design – ideally of complex, high-speed machinery. Proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor or similar is essential, along with deep knowledge of servo systems, dosing mechanisms, and sealing technologies. You should be familiar with hygienic design principles, ISO safety standards, and component selection for pneumatics, bearings, and wear surfaces. Strong analytical skills and a background in mechanical engineering are key.

What you’ll get

A role at the heart of innovation, within a small supportive, highly technical team. You’ll be given ownership of projects and space to push boundaries in design and development. Competitive market salary, career growth, and exposure to global standards are just the beginning.
