Senior Electrical Engineer (Grid – MV/HV)

Location: Cape Town

Salary: R1.9 million per annum + benefits

Take the lead in connecting utility-scale renewable projects to South Africa’s grid.

Is this you?

You’re an experienced electrical engineer who thrives on solving complex grid challenges. Confident in your technical expertise, you’re equally comfortable engaging with utilities, consultants, and clients, while guiding teams and mentoring colleagues. You balance independence with collaboration, make informed decisions under pressure, and take pride in ensuring projects meet the highest standards of compliance and performance.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

As the senior authority on grid-related engineering, you’ll drive all aspects of connecting large-scale renewable projects to the MV/HV utility interface. From development through commissioning, you’ll design and review systems for compliance, resolve field issues, and act as the key technical contact for stakeholders. Your role will see you preparing and reviewing specifications, single-line diagrams, and BoQs, as well as ensuring adherence to grid codes and international standards. You’ll also participate in feasibility studies, contract reviews, and permitting processes, all while providing guidance to junior engineers and helping set benchmarks for quality and innovation.

Where you’ll be doing it

Our client is a global leader in renewable energy, delivering solar, wind, and hybrid projects across the world. Locally, they’ve already installed more than 400MW and continue to play a pivotal role in South Africa’s transition to sustainable energy. With a collaborative culture and strong international footprint, they offer the chance to contribute to cutting-edge projects while developing your career within a supportive, growth-driven environment.

What you’ll need

You are a qualified Electrical Engineer, ideally professionally registered (Pr. Eng), with proven MV/HV and substation design expertise. Strong knowledge of grid codes and their application to renewable projects is essential, along with experience in EPCs, IPPs, or consulting. The ability to produce detailed designs, manage compliance, and engage confidently with utilities and stakeholders will be key to your success.

What you’ll get

A highly competitive package of up to R1.9 million per annum, plus performance bonus, medical aid contribution, and a hybrid working policy. Beyond the numbers, you’ll be part of an ISO-certified international business that values collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence, with opportunities to work on world-leading renewable projects.
