Senior Legal Associate (Renewable Energy)

Location: Southern Suburbs, Cape Town

Salary: Market related

Take the lead on the transactions shaping Africa’s clean energy future.

Is this you?

Commercially astute and confident operating at senior level, you’re an experienced renewable energy lawyer who enjoys owning complex matters from start to finish. You combine exceptional drafting and negotiation skills with strategic judgement, remaining composed under pressure while confidently advising executives, boards, lenders and external partners.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Taking a leading legal role across a growing renewable energy portfolio, you’ll drive complex project and corporate transactions, including PPAs, EPC and O&M contracts, JDAs, SPAs and joint ventures. You’ll lead project finance legal workstreams through Financial Close, manage due diligence and Conditions Precedent, oversee external counsel and advise on acquisitions, disposals, restructurings, regulatory matters and commercial risk. You’ll enjoy genuine ownership, with your legal judgement directly influencing strategic decisions and successful project execution.

Where you’ll be doing it

You’ll join a highly entrepreneurial independent power producer developing utility-scale renewable energy projects across Southern Africa. Despite being a lean team, they’ve built an impressive project pipeline by moving quickly, making decisions efficiently and empowering every employee to make a meaningful contribution. If you enjoy taking ownership, learning rapidly and working alongside ambitious professionals, you’ll feel right at home. The role is two to three days in office in Southern Suburbs, Cape Town.

What you’ll need

An LLB and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa are essential, together with 5 to 10 years’ PQE in corporate practice or an in-house renewable energy environment. You’ll bring a minimum of 6 months renewable energy experience. We’re ideally looking for someone that has had exposure to PPAs, EPC, O&M, project finance, debt and equity transactions, Financial Close, acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures, plus strong regulatory, compliance and corporate governance knowledge.

What you’ll get

A basic salary, annual bonus opportunity and hybrid working model. More importantly, you’ll gain high-impact exposure to complex renewable energy and project finance transactions across Africa, with the autonomy to influence commercial outcomes and help shape a next-generation IPP.
