Company Maintenance Engineer

Location: Benoni, Gauteng

Salary: Market related

Maintenance is not just fixing faults. Here, your root-cause insight drives lasting equipment reliability.

Is this you?

Recurring failures bring out your calm, methodical side. You enjoy moving from symptoms to root causes, balancing hands-on problem-solving with sound analysis. Collaborative and safety-conscious, you communicate technical priorities clearly, adapt to new methods and take ownership of reliable, well-documented outcomes.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Diagnose equipment malfunctions using technical knowledge and diagnostic tools, then turn findings into corrective and preventive action. You will analyse reliability data, optimise maintenance schedules, reduce unplanned downtime and maintain accurate specifications, manuals and modification records. Alongside maintenance technicians and engineering teams, you will coordinate upgrades, strengthen safety and environmental compliance, train staff, improve workflows and control costs without compromising quality.

Where you’ll be doing it

Within an engineering business, the role sits in the I&E department and workshop, reporting into senior technical leadership and overseeing a Workshop Technologist. The setting combines practical equipment work with analytical decision-making, regulatory discipline and close coordination across maintenance and engineering colleagues.

What you’ll need

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, backed by at least five years’ engineering industry experience, is essential. Strong candidates can read technical drawings and schematics, use CAD, interpret performance data and troubleshoot mechanical systems. Knowledge of materials, metallurgy, instrumentation, MTBF, MTTR, safety, quality, environmental requirements and project fundamentals is required. CRE or CMRP certification is advantageous.

What you’ll get

A broad remit gives you ownership across equipment reliability, maintenance improvement and technical capability. You will deepen your exposure to emerging technologies and best practice, influence upgrades and process changes, and build leadership experience by developing maintenance staff and guiding a technical direct report.
