External Sales Engineer – Pumps

Location: Durban

Salary: Market related

Pump orders can lose momentum between selection and delivery. Your technical judgement keeps customers and production aligned.

Is this you?

Technical credibility matters here, but so does the instinct to keep customers informed and opportunities moving. You are a composed, practical communicator who enjoys solving field problems, building trust and owning detail under pressure. Deadlines sharpen your focus rather than compromising your follow-through.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Managing the full customer journey, you’ll develop existing accounts and open new opportunities with consulting engineers, project houses and municipalities. You’ll track tenders and market activity, diagnose pump and system issues, complete selections, prepare SAP quotations and process orders. Close liaison with factory and production teams will keep customers informed through to delivery, while C4C records, project updates and claims protocols stay accurate.

Where you’ll be doing it

Within an established industrial pump business, the Durban branch connects customer sites with factory and production teams. The environment is collaborative, safety-conscious and hands-on, with colleagues supporting daily branch priorities and technical sales work spanning consulting engineers, project houses and municipalities.

What you’ll need

A Mechanical Engineering degree or diploma, backed by three to five years in a similar pump industry role, provides the foundation. Sound knowledge of pump systems, component identification and selection software is essential, along with computer literacy and strong communication. SAP experience is advantageous. You must meet deadlines and perform reliably under pressure.

What you’ll get

Real end-to-end scope is the draw. You’ll strengthen your expertise across pump selection, field fault finding, tenders, quotations, order fulfilment and stakeholder management, with direct visibility from customer need to delivery. The benefits structure includes compulsory medical aid and pension participation.
