What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a cutting-edge hybrid power plant. You will oversee the operations of a 115 MWp solar farm and a 90 MWh battery storage system, ensuring compliance with O&M agreements and best practices. You’ll manage O&M contractors, develop and implement maintenance strategies, and oversee plant safety regulations. You’ll also drive long-term plant health strategies, optimise operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Additionally, you will manage budgets, spare parts inventories, and ensure smooth coordination with stakeholders, including landowners and regulatory bodies.

You’ll be based in Upington, working on a state-of-the-art hybrid power plant, surrounded by a team that values expertise, innovation, and sustainability.

What you’ll need

To be considered for this role, you need at least a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in a related field, with a strong preference for a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. You bring a minimum of 15 years of experience in the energy sector, with at least 10 years focused on power plant operations and maintenance. Extensive knowledge of electrical infrastructure, substations, and overhead lines is essential. Experience managing O&M best practices, overseeing contractors, and working with high-voltage systems will set you apart. Being a GMR2.1 appointee and having a deep understanding of industry regulations will be highly advantageous. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are a must.
