Production Engineer – Assembly

Location: Johannesburg

Salary: Market related

Every build brings together around 2,000 components. Your production leadership will make them work as one.

Is this you?

Practical engineering judgement and visible leadership define how you work. You are comfortable on the production floor, earn the respect of experienced artisans and remain decisive under delivery pressure. Ambitious yet coachable, you want to challenge established methods and grow into senior production leadership.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Taking ownership of assembly and systems integration, you will turn fabricated structures and thousands of components into completed, working equipment. You will develop build sequences and work instructions, coordinate parts availability with Supply Chain, manage shortages and track progress against cost and delivery plans. Alongside leading assemblers and fitters, you will oversee quality checks, functional testing, safety and continuous improvement.

Where you’ll be doing it

Within an established, investor-backed engineering manufacturer, custom builds move through assembly, fit-out and testing simultaneously. The business is growing and strengthening its production structure to support increased demand. This is a fully site-based environment where decisions happen close to the factory floor and engineering quality matters.

What you’ll need

A BEng or BSc Engineering degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is essential, supported by five to ten years of post-qualification experience. You must already manage people in complex, discrete manufacturing and bring hands-on mechanical assembly and systems integration expertise. Confidence reading engineering drawings and using CAD and ERP systems is required. ECSA registration or progress towards it is advantageous.

What you’ll get

Clear succession potential towards Head of Production gives this role unusual long-term scope. You will gain exposure to varied engineer-to-order builds, influence how production is professionalised and work closely with experienced leadership. The role offers increasing responsibility, mentoring and the chance to shape processes as the engineering function expands.
