Production Engineer – Fabrication

Location: Johannesburg

Salary: Market related

Fabrication is not a support act here. It shapes every complex build and puts you on a path towards production leadership.

Is this you?

Practical judgement, visible leadership and an instinct for improving how things are built define your approach. You are comfortable challenging established methods, making decisions under delivery pressure and earning the trust of experienced artisans. Ambitious but coachable, you want tangible responsibility and a route into senior production leadership.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Owning fabrication across multiple concurrent builds, you will lead cutting, forming, rolling, welding and machining while maintaining welding procedures, qualifications, inspections and testing. You will develop jigs, fixtures and fabrication sequences, plan capacity and material usage, and reduce rework and scrap. Working with the design office and production teams, you will resolve floor-level issues, develop people and strengthen safety, quality and reporting.

Where you’ll be doing it

Within an investor-backed specialist manufacturer, high-mix, low-volume engineering takes place in a fully site-based production environment. The business is strengthening its leadership and engineering capability as it grows. Its proud, long-serving workforce values quality, practical expertise and leaders who spend time on the factory floor.

What you’ll need

A BEng or BSc Engineering degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is required, together with typically five to ten years of post-qualification experience. Your background must include people management in complex discrete manufacturing and hands-on fabrication and welding. You should read engineering drawings confidently and work with CAD and ERP systems. ECSA progress and a recognised welding or fabrication qualification are advantageous.

What you’ll get

The real value is a defined succession path towards Head of Production, supported by growing leadership responsibility and mentoring. You will gain broad exposure to varied engineer-to-order work, influence production standards and help professionalise a business investing in its next phase of growth.
