Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Namibia, Windhoek / Okahandja

Salary: Market related
Duration: Permanent / Part time

If a machine must move from concept to production, your engineering judgement shapes what gets built.

Is this you?

Original thinking comes naturally to you, but practicality guides every decision. You enjoy solving complex mechanical problems, testing ideas against real manufacturing constraints and taking ownership until a reliable machine is ready for use. Close collaboration with fabricators suits your hands-on style.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

Turning ideas into working agricultural machinery, you will lead the journey from engineering concept and detailed 3D CAD design through prototyping, testing and production implementation. You will create manufacturing drawings, assemblies and bills of materials, complete calculations, select materials and drive systems, and improve existing equipment for reliability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Troubleshooting alongside fabrication teams keeps the work grounded and rewarding.

Where you’ll be doing it

Within an on-site agricultural engineering environment in Namibia, the focus is on developing practical machinery and agro-processing equipment. Engineering and fabrication work closely together, creating direct visibility from design decisions to the machines being manufactured, tested and refined. Assistance with relocation and work permits will be provided for anyone outside Namibia.

What you’ll need

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or a related discipline must be backed by at least seven years of agricultural machinery and equipment design experience. You will need advanced 3D CAD capability, strong knowledge of mechanical systems, fabrication, manufacturing processes and design for manufacture, plus excellent English. A portfolio, three relevant projects and three traceable professional references are required.

What you’ll get

See your engineering decisions take shape as you guide original machinery from concept through prototyping, testing and production. End-to-end ownership brings meaningful influence and deeper expertise across design and manufacturing. International applicants can receive work visa preparation support, subject to immigration requirements and approvals.
