What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of key steel construction projects, working on structural, mechanical, piping, and platework estimations. You’ll gather quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, analyse company data, and monitor budgets using specialised software. Your strong technical skills will come into play as you assess cost estimates, identifying labour, material, and equipment needs based on technical drawings and project proposals. You’ll prepare detailed reports, conduct risk assessments, and ensure that project costs stay on track from start to finish. Regular site visits will give you the opportunity to stay hands-on and ensure your estimates align with real-world requirements, all while working closely with management to meet project goals.

Where you’ll be doing it

You’ll be joining a well-established heavy engineering firm based in Benoni, known for its expertise in steel construction, particularly structural, mechanical, and piping work. What you’ll need

You’ll need at least 3 years of experience in steel construction estimation, with a strong focus on Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Platework projects. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, and other relevant software is essential, along with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings. A solid theoretical understanding of project management or quantity surveying will set you apart, while strong communication and problem-solving skills will ensure you succeed in this role. A Matric qualification is required, and additional certifications in construction management or related fields will be advantageous. Site experience and the ability to pass Occupational Health and Safety screenings are also a must.
