Interviews can be Nerve-Wrecking!

There’s nothing like it really.

Interviews that are nerve-wrecking!

Even the most experienced professionals can feel uneasy when put on the spot.

But the secret to a great interview isn’t just about having the right answers, it’s more about feeling comfortable enough to deliver them with confidence.

One of the most common (yet deceptively tricky) questions you’ll face is:

“Tell us about your career.”

It sounds simple, but many candidates either ramble, freeze up, or struggle to frame their journey compellingly.

Here are a few strategies to make answering this question (and the entire interview) feel more natural: Think of Your Career as a Story.

Rather than listing job titles and responsibilities, focus on the key chapters: How did you start? What shaped your path? What have been your biggest learnings? Keep it structured but engaging.

✅ Tailor Your Answer to the Role. Highlight the parts of your journey that are most relevant to the job you’re interviewing for. Every experience doesn’t need to be included; focus on what aligns with the opportunity.

✅ Use the “Present-Past-Future” Formula. A simple framework to keep your answer structured:
Present: Where are you now, and what do you do?
Past: How did you get here? Key experiences, achievements, and turning points.
Future: What’s next? Why are you excited about this opportunity?

✅ Find Your Comfort Zone. Confidence comes from preparation, but also from mindset. Before an interview, take a few deep breaths, remind yourself that it’s a conversation (not an interrogation), and focus on connecting with the interviewer rather than just giving “perfect” answers.

Great interviews happen when you feel at ease, know your value, and can communicate your journey with clarity.

So next time you’re asked, “Tell us about your career,” tell your story because no one else can tell it like you!
