Head of Finance & HR

Location: Houghton, Johannesburg

Salary: Market related

You're looking for that next challenge and you're bringing your years of expertise along with you!

Is this you?

You’re a reliable, self-motivated professional with a hands-on approach and a collaborative mindset. You thrive in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment and enjoy working autonomously while also contributing to a close-knit leadership team. With a sharp eye for detail and a solution-focused attitude, you’re confident managing finance and HR operations, and you communicate financial information clearly to varied audiences.

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll enjoy it)

You’ll be leading the Finance & HR Competence Centre and managing a small team of three. Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Deputy CEO, you’ll be responsible for full bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting functions – including monthly trial balances, audits, cash flow forecasting, payroll, and tax/VAT returns in line with both local and international standards. You’ll also introduce full cost accounting, consolidate accounts across regional offices, and oversee personnel records. This multifaceted role offers a stimulating blend of leadership, technical finance, compliance, and strategic planning.

Where you’ll be doing it

Our client is an internationally active membership organisation promoting economic collaboration between Germany and Southern Africa. With regional offices in Southern Africa and a legacy spanning over 70 years, the organisation plays a vital role in supporting cross-border trade and investment. They offer a professional, multicultural environment where integrity, service, and long-term partnerships are valued.

What you’ll need

You hold a relevant degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field, and bring at least 5 years of hands-on experience in finance. Your knowledge of South African accounting, tax, and financial software (especially Sage Pastel) is solid. You can translate numbers into insight and have experience preparing audits, reports, and forecasts.

What you’ll get

You’ll join a respected organisation offering meaningful work, an autonomous role, and great work-life balance – including two days of home office per week. The salary is competitive and aligned with your experience.
