Post Probation Tips

Okay, so you got the job.
Now what?

If you were recruited into your new company you will often find that the recruiting consultant is (hopefully) close by your side during the probation period (first 3 months of employment) to make sure you are happy, make sure the client is happy and ensure that the overall match is going well.

But once the “honeymoon phase” is over, you are on your ace and it’s time to pick up your socks and put on that brave face.

Here are some vital tips for all my new starters out there who are wondering what is the right etiquette, modus operandi if you will, when heading into post-probation (training wheels are off):

💡 Start by REALLY understanding the expectations put forward by your employer. Make sure you have a clear idea of your job responsibilities, goals, and performance expectations. If there’s anything you’re unsure about, don’t hesitate to ask your supervisor or HR for clarification.

💡 Seeking feedback will give you a GUAGE of your performance levels. Actively seek feedback from your supervisor and colleagues during and after your probationary period. This will help you identify areas for improvement and show your commitment to learning and growing in your role.

💡 Sit down and make a list. Set your GOALS for the financial year ahead. Set specific, measurable, and achievable goals for yourself to work towards during your probationary period and beyond. Discuss these goals with your manager to ensure they align with the company’s objectives.

💡 Obviously, it’s vital that you demonstrate INITAITIVE. Identifying opportunities for improvement or areas where you can add value to the company is where you show a spark. Volunteer for new projects, offer to help colleagues, and proactively seek out ways to contribute to the team’s success.

💡 Build those professional workplace relationships! Positive relationships with your colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders within the organization enhance the overall experience in the workplace. Effective communication and collaboration are key to succeeding in any role.

💡 Learn to manage your TIME wisely. This is effective in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines. Use tools like calendars, to-do lists, and project management software to stay organized and on track.

💡 And most important of all (in my humble opinion) is to stay POSITIVE and RESILIANT. This is especially true if you encounter setbacks or challenges along the way. Approach obstacles with a problem-solving mindset and learn from any mistakes or failures. And KEEP SMILING. It means more than you think in today’s working world.

You’ve got this! Keep that growth mindset and you can achieve anything. Good luck! 🍀
