Tips for online interviews

Yes, it happens!

I’ve joined an online interview and my candidate was in a very noisy coffee shop, busy eating a muffin and having a cappuccino.

And… proceeded to continue to eat the muffin.

Which brings me to sharing and giving some tips for online interviews:

πŸ‘‰ Test your Tech: Ensure your meeting link, internet, camera, and microphone are working.
πŸ‘‰ Ensure a strong internet connection. For those using data, DON’T RUN OUT!
πŸ‘‰ If it applies – check the loadshedding schedule and ensure you won’t be caught off-guard.
πŸ‘‰ Check your background is professional. A plain (clean) white wall is best. Don’t be in a public place or have your bed / kitchen etc in the background.
πŸ‘‰ Quiet space: Choose a quiet, well-lit, and a distraction-free area.
πŸ‘‰ Don’t be tempted with distractions like playing on your cell phone or looking on another screen. Rather put your cell on airplane mode.
πŸ‘‰ Be punctual: Join the meeting a few minutes early.
πŸ‘‰ Dress top and bottom smart. You never know when you may need to get up for whatever reason.
πŸ‘‰ Check placement of camera. You need to be at eye level.
πŸ‘‰ Rather don’t eat or drink (I’m sure you can wait 1 hour). And definitely don’t smoke!
