Tips for online interviews

Yes, it happens!

I’ve joined an online interview and my candidate was in a very noisy coffee shop, busy eating a muffin and having a cappuccino.

And… proceeded to continue to eat the muffin.

Which brings me to sharing and giving some tips for online interviews:

👉 Test your Tech: Ensure your meeting link, internet, camera, and microphone are working.
👉 Ensure a strong internet connection. For those using data, DON’T RUN OUT!
👉 If it applies – check the loadshedding schedule and ensure you won’t be caught off-guard.
👉 Check your background is professional. A plain (clean) white wall is best. Don’t be in a public place or have your bed / kitchen etc in the background.
👉 Quiet space: Choose a quiet, well-lit, and a distraction-free area.
👉 Don’t be tempted with distractions like playing on your cell phone or looking on another screen. Rather put your cell on airplane mode.
👉 Be punctual: Join the meeting a few minutes early.
👉 Dress top and bottom smart. You never know when you may need to get up for whatever reason.
👉 Check placement of camera. You need to be at eye level.
👉 Rather don’t eat or drink (I’m sure you can wait 1 hour). And definitely don’t smoke!
