Yes, it happens!
Iβve joined an online interview and my candidate was in a very noisy coffee shop, busy eating a muffin and having a cappuccino.
And⦠proceeded to continue to eat the muffin.
Which brings me to sharing and giving some tips for online interviews:
π Test your Tech: Ensure your meeting link, internet, camera, and microphone are working.
π Ensure a strong internet connection. For those using data, DON’T RUN OUT!
π If it applies β check the loadshedding schedule and ensure you wonβt be caught off-guard.
π Check your background is professional. A plain (clean) white wall is best. Don’t be in a public place or have your bed / kitchen etc in the background.
π Quiet space: Choose a quiet, well-lit, and a distraction-free area.
π Don’t be tempted with distractions like playing on your cell phone or looking on another screen. Rather put your cell on airplane mode.
π Be punctual: Join the meeting a few minutes early.
π Dress top and bottom smart. You never know when you may need to get up for whatever reason.
π Check placement of camera. You need to be at eye level.
π Rather don’t eat or drink (Iβm sure you can wait 1 hour). And definitely donβt smoke!
