The Most Underrated Interview Move – Expressing Interest!

Preparing for an interview often means researching the company, practising common interview questions, and making sure you present yourself professionally.

While all of these are important, there’s one simple step that many candidates overlook, and it can make all the difference.

Express your interest in the role.

It may sound obvious, but many hiring managers walk away from an interview unsure whether a candidate is genuinely excited about the opportunity.

Even if you have all the right skills and experience, a lack of enthusiasm can sometimes be interpreted as a lack of interest, and that could cost you the job.

Before the interview comes to an end, take a moment to let the interviewer know how you feel about the opportunity.

A few sincere words can leave a lasting impression.

You could say something like:

💬 “I’m really excited about this opportunity and believe my experience in XYZ would allow me to add real value to your team.”

Or, if you’d like to address any concerns before leaving the room, ask:

💬 “Do you have any concerns about my ability to do the job that I could clarify for you?”

This gives you the chance to answer any lingering questions and demonstrates confidence, self-awareness, and a genuine desire to succeed.

Finally, don’t forget to ask:

💬 “What are the next steps in the hiring process?”

Not only does this show that you’re interested in moving forward, but it also helps you understand what to expect after the interview.

At the end of the day, hiring managers aren’t only looking for someone who can do the job.

They’re looking for someone who wants to do the job too.

A little enthusiasm can go a long way, so don’t leave the interview wondering whether they knew you were interested.

Make sure they do.
